How did you set your rent budget when moving in with a partner? I make £125k base (£167k inc bonus), and my boyfriend makes £95k base (£105k inc bonus). I’m used to allocating 30% of my take-home pay to rent, which is about £1800/mo for a charming neighbourhood in zone 1, but my bf’s used to paying closer to £1000/mo to live in zone 6 and balks at the rent prices I think are reasonable given our incomes and locations we want (zone 2). We both wfh so ideally want a 3BR. (Continued in comments)
Trying to figure out if I was always such a lazy sack of sh*t but just never got a chance to fully embrace it, or did the wfh actually make me lazier.
Hello. I’m working on H1B and recently got a promotion. My company is amending my H1B and told me that since my new job is remote I can only work at my apartment (since it’s my legal location). Is there any chance they can figure out I’m working remotely from somewhere else? Also, I’m also in the process of applying for green card (thru employment). Does anyone know the timeline for this given my H1B is getting amended ? (My country has no waiting time).
Will firms do anything to address the increased burnout burden of less traveling and more wfh that will be the new normal?
Facebook has extended its remote work policy through July 2021, but I'm told I'd still have to relocate by the end of the year if I accept an offer. I have an infant so this is risky. Can I request an exception or will they look for someone else then?
My brother is looking for a UX Designer role, in Ireland or remote. He has a Master's in Interaction and Experience Design from the University of Limerick and has done quite a few projects. He also has 3 years of experience as an architect with strong focus on design. He is proficient in Industry standard tools and software used for designing, wireframing and rendering. https://www.linkedin.com/in/arun-rajeev
COVID WFH has put me several time zones away from my client (I’m further west and their culture is to start the day early anyway). It’s a new project so I don’t have relationships built up. How much pushback on morning meetings is reasonable? I know the project can’t operate totally around me but these start times aren’t sustainable...
I’ve been ending my work days at 12 AM (I wfh), but bright side is that I don’t work weekends. Basically, when do the long nights end? Does it get easier? I’m a first year
Any recommendations for a hybrid robot vacuum in terms of price-performance Ratio or important buying criteria? WFH makes it necessary and I want to treat myself :). Key information: floor is parquet, so I guess it should have dry/wet/wiping functions, don’t have any pets, thought I want to spend 300€ max. but no clue if investing more is worth it. Highly appreciate any input :)!
Quick poll. If you work remote, does your company reimburse internet? Mine has reimbursed it for years, and took it away this year. Seems like a weird move to do that now, so just curious about other's experience.
I’m fully remote for 2 years now. More productive than ever. Present for my family like never before. Have met more people from my company than I would’ve if I’d rely only on bumping into them. Have a much more focused, open and dynamic creative process with my teams. My company doubled size. Why would anyone consider going to a physical place to do work that’s delivered digitally ever again, even if for a day per year?
Wfh is more tiring than wfw
Hello fishes: please help to clear my confusion: Designation: Consultant Infy: 15.5 lpa + 1.25l joining bonus + Promise of atleast 2 years WFH KPMG: 17.5lpa Which one is better.
My favorite part about WFH is that I experience significantly less micro aggressions and/or discrimination than when I used to have to go to the office. The downside is that there will probably be less work for employment lawyers. I don’t mind making that sacrifice. It’s harder to have a hostile work environment when you don’t have to be in a work environment 5 days a week (sometimes 6). For context, I’m a POC.
Can anyone help me to understand when HCL technologies stop work from home? I am planning to join HCL but need to know when office will resume with full capacityHCL Technologies
Is it legit for anyone, at any level of seniority, that works in IBD to put on an out of office when taking ordinary course vacation?
Anyone leave consulting for a pure business development or sales role? What was your position and how was your experience? Was the money just as good?
I fucking hate the expectation that "men must provide" or "women must act a certain way". That's damaging to a lot of relationships. I love division of labor and working with each other's strengths and weaknesses without so much emphasis on gender roles. I'm a big supporter of utilitarian relationship that strives for the good of the partnership and each party.
Has anyone on Temporary visa (H1B, DACA etc.) Applied for Global Entry? Recently got a job that may require lots of travel within the US and global entry which includes TSA pre check would go a long way. I am on DACA. Been in the US since I was 5 years ago. Any pointers would be helpful. Can't seem to find anything useful online as I cannot travel to India being on DACA
Anyone ever had an issue with "quality of deliverable"? I make power points like a good little slave then they are where good enough. Some wisdom from you fam?
Just had a great Zoom breakout room chat with a Bain Consultant who’s an alum the b-school I’m attending (Experience Bain). Asked a couple questions and really enjoyed the convo. Ok to connect on LinkedIn?
Do you have to tell your firm why if you file for medical leave. Given my anxiety and insomnia I just need a month of breathing room to not feel insane.
Anybody else feel a little sentimental when they realize their toddler has lost their baby memories? For instance, tonight my 3 year old chose a bedtime book that we haven't read in a really long time (maybe 9 months, at least). We used to read this book all the time and he loved it. Tonight, I realized it was like I was reading it to him for the first time. I know we're forming so many great, new memories; but, it made me feel a little sad that some of our beautiful old memories will be lost.
Hi Baby Lawyer here, I recently got a job in-house and feel like I know nothing and was wondering if anyone had any books/resources/ advice on how to get more knowledge. I don’t want to do a bad job, and they were specifically looking for someone with little experience so they can train them but feel like I don’t know enough to be helpful.
I am thinking to resign after maternity leave ends so I can take care of the baby and find some job less demanding than big 4. The company has leave on absence, which extends my maternity leave. Does it look bad I resign right after my extended maternity leave? Has anyone been there, done that? When is the best time to give notice in this case?
Does anyone have any insight on Highmark Health’s Enterprise Effectiveness group? Recruiter reached out and curious how much impact the team actually drives.
Trying to find awards show categories for a globally activated branded holiday. Any thoughts greatly appreciated :)
We are a family of 4- husband, myself and 2 boys. We flew to Miami and came back. Other than being in flight and at the airport where we double masked, we were all by ourselves avoiding crowded places. Once back, my son got a cold, cough and slight fever too. We went to urgent care and they took a covid test, awaiting results. Now I’m super anxious and scared and feel stupid for exposing my kids. Anyone else in the same position ? Looking for positive vibes.
I'm planning to give my 2 weeks, but am in the middle of using our Hyatt Legal plan benefits to create a will, which is scheduled to be finalized on 8/31. I already have my case number....
Are there any Alix partners here or those familiar with the firm? How would you compare working for Alix vs B4 and others?
What are some good headphones for Skype calls? Preferably bluetooth. My current headphones bring in too much background noise of the slightest things for the person on the other end.
