Personal jurisdiction Q: anyone have case law that says a personal jurisdiction, once obtained, cannot be lost by a FL court? (Basically, a person can leave the state after a case has started and then assert FL no longer has PJ and so the case must be dismissed). I read 1.140 to support what I need- but am looking for case law more specifically in point. Once FL has PJ, FL doesn’t lose PJ.

Once they have responded to the complaint, if they have not objected to being brought into suit based on PJ, then it is waived. Civ pro 101 here. Only SMJ can never be waived

Right, exactly. 101. But finding it difficult to land on an actual case that supports what we already know to be true…

Maybe because no one has been silly enough to appeal that decision to create the case law? 😆

Reach out to your civ pro professor and ask! Or pull out your ole civ law case book and find the topic of PJ!

Jr. Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm in Central Florida. Good credentials; top 10% at T14, law review. Sick of private practice bc of hours and pressure. Also, not enjoying the work that Central Florida offers, but want to live here.

I want to one day have my own firm. Trying to think outside the box on how to get the experience w/o being in big law for ten years.

Thinking of applying to be an ASA and to the FL AGO. Would like trial experience or civil rights/con law work.

Thoughts appreciated!
