- apply when you feel your application is ready and strongest. If you can get it there by r1 - great. If you feel like you need more time - wait.
- how many schools are you applying to & are you hiring a consultant?
- too long - figure out which one is your strength first and cater to it
- do the reference letters as early as possible. It’s better they upload a month before you submit than you stressing that they’ll miss the deadline - life happens sometimes
- yes
If you haven't picked your test yet and aren't one of those people who can just show up and get a killer score, you should probably be looking at R2. There are <100 days between now and the early R1 deadlines. There isn't a meaningful difference between applying in R1 and R2. You need to apply in the round in which you are both the strongest possible applicant (test score, work experience, leadership profile) and can put forward the strongest possible applications (clear goals, comprehensive school research about resources to address gaps in your skills and knowledge, strong recommendations (give them at least 5-6 weeks with an early heads up before you share guidance with them).
If you are sponsored and plan to return to McK, then your immediate post-MBA goal is set. You need to think about your long term goals to figure out what you need from business school to put you on a path to achieve them.
