Potential downsides to leaving a 2 year staff attorney clerkship earlier, around the one year mark? If for a term clerkship? Guessing I may burn that bridge of returning to that office

I just ended a 2 year staff attorney clerkship. The expectation is to complete the full term, but they have made exceptions. Best thing to do b is talk with your supervisor and try to work things out. Definitely don't wana burn that bridge because you may need them down the line for references

Has a partner ever come back and asked you why you spent so much time on certain things? Im a first year and this hasn’t happened to me at my firm and they tell us not to cut our own time, but my first firm (short stint, small firm) did this to me allll the time and made me feel guilty — so just curious if this has happened to anyone in big law.

I’ve been at my clerkship for 5 years (4 with a different judge) and one with my current judge, and I heard horrible things about him before starting, but I assumed they were exaggerated. Turns out they’re all true, and I’ve had to start therapy to deal with him and the incredibly toxic environment. I’m trying to get out ASAP b/c he also has a history of firing clerks without cause or notice, but I think I’ll only be able to give two weeks notice if i get the job I’m interviewing for. Thoughts?

Still WFH? What are other chambers doing for task management? Our chambers has been keeping up with assignments, incoming emails needing judge’s eyes, and written orders, all through Microsoft Planner. We share PDFs through Sharepoint folders. Although we still email draft orders back and forth, the system seems to work well enough. We still aren’t operating at our previous capacity because it takes 10x the number of steps to get a motion heard or an order entered—90% of our workload.
