What has your experience been with new job offers and counter offers from current employers? In my opinion, if I’m looking to leave it is because I’m unhappy and excited about the new role I’ve been offered. I’ve never been interested in a counter offer and it seems like it would ruin relationships with both employers. Interested to hear others opinions!

A friend was just offered a new job with more money, better benefits. He wasnt looking, they called him and he wanted to at least check it out. When he gave notice, the company gave him a raise and a promotion. Ive seen cases where the boss tells you to leave right then and there, be prepared for it to go either way.

I took a counter offer that my former employer provided and happily stayed for another two years. But the counter offer was in an entirely different org with a significant pay bump, and so I was re-engaged by new work and team. What I hear most from others is that generally choosing to stay leads quickly back to the dissatisfaction that prompted you to recruit elsewhere in the first place, albeit with a slightly higher salary (which they could have been paying you all along, which can also lead to resentment).

I’ve been interviewing for new positions to leave PA. But in my current position, we’ve been adding quite a few new projects (and our team is partner, two staff, and me) that will probably start over the next couple of months. I don’t think my boss has any idea I’m looking to leave - anything I should do to not feel guilty about potentially leaving them short staffed with a ton of work? Is this something you think about when looking to leave?

Interested in joining the Reserves, but I’m guessing that’s way too much with a consulting career? No ROTC or previous military experience so I’d have to go through OCS/OTS as well.
Or is it better to wait until I exit to industry and pursue my interest in the military then?
Any and all advice appreciated.

Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. Understanding that the degreed person committed to school and finished, yet that doesn't diminish what the not degreed has committed to and accomplished in their careers. This has to stop!
