Puff Daddy (basically) gets off, with only minor convictions. How embarrassing for Christy Slavik and the rest of the prosecutors. This is why you stick to the facts and don't over-charge defendants instead of trying to make a name for yourself with a big splashy trial.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that this is indicative of the level of regard our culture has for abuse victims more than anything.

Nah, in this country’s justice system, the only color that matters is green. A wealthy black person will get justice 10 times over before a poor person of any color

OP I think it’s really gonna depend on the judge. Sometimes if you have a conservative “tough on crime” judge and they hear a ton of gnarly shit during trial, it absolutely injects itself into the sentencing even if technically they aren’t supposed to consider it. I don’t know enough about the reputation of this judge and whether they’d be likely to go as hard as they can. It will also probably depend on if they make a post-conviction deal to avoid appeals.

Well said. The case was weak for the charges brought.

Who’s Puff Daddy? Is this referring to the Diddler

like

Although I feel Diddy is guilty and should be behind bars for a long time, the overcharging, now coupled with the bail denial, just presents a situation where people just lost trust in our judiciary as it seems, although he is super rich, they are charging and acting on certain ways because who the person is not what the person did….

Please also see many of the Trump cases as well….New York state and federal DAs/USAs hurt the entire system with these two people and their cases

Can someone explain why their weren’t straight forward assault or battery charges included in the indictment? SOL? Seems like they had their eyes set on Rico from day 1, then worked backwards to make a case for the claim.

like

Yes this is the problem — often women come out with these allegations many years later due to trauma etc. This means that often the SOL on state crimes like assault/battery are expired, and certainly there is no longer physical evidence. Making it a RICO case allows for them to bring in tons of old shit bc it’s allegedly a continuing criminal enterprise. This worked well for the R Kelly prosecution and Keith Raniere thr sex cult guy, so I think this strategy can be effective. But it’s a lot harder to prove and also more complicated for juries to understand than a classic simple crime. This result will probably make fed prosecutors pull back from thinking this is a magic workaround.

Poor Ms. Comey

He should never have beep prosecuted for the charges as proffered.!

I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
