Please stop comparing yourself to others! Not everyone can make 200k at 25. You need to be exceptional at something (skill, luck or parents). Not everyone can be in the top 1%. / Rant over

I’m finding it so hard to be happy with what I have. Constant comparisons of social life, of salary, of relationships.

Any tips on leaving all that behind and focusing on the things that matter?

I might not make that much compared to my peers. I may not have a thriving social life. But I do have things to be grateful for.

I live in a HCOL and am contemplating about buying an apartment as i’ll live here in near-med term. If I proceed, will have to put down 30% lump sum down payment but the rest of monthly mortgage will be the same as my current rent. The thing is the 30% down payment equals all of my savings, and I’m not 100% sure if i’d still live here in 5+ years. Note that all my friends who bought an apartment 5 years only saw equal or lower market price now, but not higher at all. How do you decide?

Anyone else dreading return to the office?

I personally love my extra time not commuting or getting distracted, use small blips of free time to get my life/house in order. My quality of life AND work have significantly improved.

With general ad culture I feel I can’t express this for fear of coming off as lazy, unmotivated, antisocial.

We’ve shown we can manage WFH. Can we talk about it a balance? Part time days to collab? Why not evolve, learn from the positives? Where’s the dialogue?!?

Hi all! I work at a nonprofit and am looking to leave the organization. As I browse available positions in my area, I’m realizing there is a LOT of crossover between my current org and others, for example shared board members, folks who are on our board and employed at one of the institutions I’m interested in, etc.. Is there a way to say “my current org doesn’t know I’m looking, so please treat my interest with discretion” that doesn’t raise red flags? Thanks!
