Question for people in Corporate Finance: is it common to mainly be able to get a promotion by moving into a new role?
Basically, I’m in a process where I have to apply and interview internally to manager roles and only once I am able to get one, do I get promoted. So my question is, is this common in corporate finance? Seems like a pretty dumb way to do things imo but curious if this is normal? My background is IB so definitely didn’t see that there but any insight would be great!

I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.
