Read a recent article on the WSJ, that companies will tell you, there is no work / home balance, expect to work 70 hours per week. If you can’t handle it, don’t apply. Is this actually a thing?

Well, if a company is telling you upfront that there’s no work life balance.. don’t apply. Seems pretty clear and straightforward. Be glad they’re disclosing it upfront.

At least the applicant knows upfront.

Yes it is true. I work 100 hours per week with a few free weekends every couple of months. Taking advantage of the labor market

I hope they are paying you a double salary because that is what you are giving to them for free.

Really depends on the industry. I have buddies in IB and it’s pretty much like that.

Wow. I can’t imagine this.

I've had interviews recently where in the first round they've tried to gauge my ability to work 80+ hour work weeks.

I'm in IB so i get it, it's normal to do those kinda hours, and the shop I'm talking about is known for being a 'sweatshop', but asking that right out the gate was super off-putting.

funny

Yes! Red flag

It’s hard to be motivated when rounds of layoffs happen and you see all your friends leave. But one thing that’s gotten me through all of this is working out. And when I say workout I mean the most pathetic, sad, barely completed beginner-level cardio dance routines. I’ve somehow forced myself to move while on lockdown and it’s somehow forced me to feel better. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are: get up and move even if you don’t finish or end up going on a walk. Pls take care of yourself❤️

1/3 Question on tax treatment of nonpriority unsecured claims converted into long-term note decreased total liabilities under Chapter 11. An accrual based C-Corp taxpayer completed a Chapter 11 reorganization and converted a total of $1M A/P to suppliers into a $410K LT note (a $590K liability reduction). Should we view this $590K as the Sec. 108(a)(1)(A) excludable income? After reading through IRS Pub 4681, I think it makes sense to view the $590 as "Reduced Price After Purchase", but not

Interesting all the noise about these PPT, my take:

The pandemic took all the upside of an IB analyst life (client meetings in person, fancy trips, suit up, worshiped at networking events) and left all the juniors with the downside (long hours, monkey-like type of job, aggressive work environment).

Not that the complaints are not sort of legitimate but you may need to revise the decision-making process that led you to accept a return offer. Specially if you were looking for less hours.
