Chief
Take a look at Kamp Grizzly from Portland.
They’ve done some great work for Adidas and Netflix that address and serve the black community with the work being done by black creatives.
Some of you are acting like OP said only black people should work on projects for the black community
Tell me, if NO ONE on the team is a part of the community, how are they supposed to understand it enough to make truly impactful work?
Thank you. Like i work on stuff targetted to white people all the time. Was not the point i was making at all.
The amount of clearly non-poc going off on this post about how its okay is just *chefs kiss* ironic.
We get it: you did that, you do that. you have to excuse yourself before understanding how a campaign for black people and about black people can be a little wonky if there are NO black people involved in creating it. Feels like benefiting from our pain or issues for the sake of praise from primarily white ad award committees.
At least one black person SHOULD be working in a campaign about black people. Stop making excuses and gain critical thinking skills. Damn.
Thank you. Work feels a little off. You look into the team and see no one credited on black targetted work was black. The barrage of questions some have thrown at me are a great deflection from doing any critic thinking themselves.
I think where it is annoying is that they definitely consulted with Black colleagues, researchers, or focus groups to collect genuine insights because they needed their perspective to make work that works yet they will not get credit for that project.
I get what you mean: we urgently have to make agencies more diverse.
But that doesn’t mean white, asian or Latino people cannot work on racism related briefings.
Or should someone who makes campaigns against gun violence be directly affected by gun violence?
Should someone who does a safe driving ad have someone in his family who died because of an accident?
not you comparing two issues that are universal to the very unique experiences of black people. Like you can be any race or color and face gun violence, or disease. You cant become black if you're not. You can benefit from black struggles and issues as a non-black creative though. Doesn't mean nobody of other races shouldn't work on these campaigns but a campaign on black issues made by white people, praised by a white committee seems more self serving than it does helpful or earnest.
A few questions. Is the problem with the team's racial background? And if so, how can you be so sure of it? Do you have a printout of the ethnic makeup of everyone on the team going back at least a few centuries? Or is it that the work itself is bad and/or phony? If the work was good would it be ok? How do you serve an experience? Me? I'm just over people winning advertising awards.
if you go back more than 3 centuries everyone will be white.... save 3-4 people probably.
as are you, clearly.
all offices should have black people on their teams- what's with the heavy-handed"well if the works good why should we care" excuse. Making good work about black people with black people is the goal.
You're giving yourself away.
It’s a thin line. Of course there are people just making something because there they want to win awards. I also believe there are people who genuinely want to help change things.
How much percentage of the team has to be black to be morally acceptable for you?
start with more than 0%.
Steve McQueen made 12 years a slave. A movie we all needed to see. Is that ok?
Haha Omg this is awkward 🤭
How can we not agree, we need to have truely diverse teams to produce work which resonates with the desired audience, we have a job to do to ensure this authenticity and inclusivity is key ❤💯
The thing is, this could be easily fixed. Just hire the right representative for the team. Or make those Black folks who were consulted be front and center for those awards.
