Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

You can negotiate for a raise, if it's long due with your current employer by leveraging your offer. The reason I'm saying is, with your new job, you'll have to prove your credibility again, you don't know about the work culture at your new job, the new job offer comes with a risk. However, if this is not the case with you, that's great! For when to know when to stop, just balance out what's more important to you, for me, compensation matters but so does the people I'm working with. Sorry if I confused you more.
I think OP is asking about negotiating their new offer, not bringing it back to negotiate with their current employer. I will be interested in hearing the replies. In "normal times" I would have suggested a small negotiation, but nowadays I wonder if it's simply best to take it if it's already what you would like to be paid.
Negotiate what? A higher pay with your current job? No employer likes to be cheated on and you cheated by interviewing elsewhere and looking for them to fight for you. You like them that much where you'll stay if the matched? Lol... Rookie move
i have learned in my 47 yrs plus that you always have to look after yourself. there are no more loyalists and that works both ways. corporate america changes constantly. just when you think your ahead you face a curve ball.
Let me say this for the people in the back
ALWAYS NEGOTIATE YOUR OFFERS!!!
Ok - now that’s done, you need to look out for you. Ask them to email your a copy of the offer to review. Respond after 24 hours, at that point all you say is “I’m really excited to join ABC company, is this offer negotible?” Say nothing until they respond.
Do you research so you know what to ask for - but always ask for more. Worst case is they say no. Also - you could see if your current employer would counter, then take that back to the new company. This can also help with getting you that higher number.
But always ask and go negotiate this offer - you got this! 💪
Don’t. Accept and go
