If the offer is significantly more, and money is huge motivator for you, take the new job. If the offer is just a little more, and you only want to squeeze an extra $5k-$10k out of your current gig, seems like it’s not worth it.

No, however if use it as leverage and your current job matches, they’ll know you’ve had one foot out the door and that might have implications later. Be prepared to leave if they don’t match, and if they do, be prepared to leave in the next year or so anyway.
When a team member comes to me with an offer from another shop and I want them to stay, I thank them for coming to me first, ask them if they are interested in a counter, and then use their offer to get them the raise. If we are not paying them their market rate, it’s our mistake to correct. Recruiting and training a replacement will likely cost me more. If your team is good, it makes sense to be on your toes and assume they are always fielding calls from recruiters.
