The interview is as much about you assessing them as it is about them assessing you.
Never go back in salary, unless you are completely sure you will like working there, with those people and clients. And more importantly, if you are sure you make up for the drop in salary in a short amount of time. And none of that is guaranteed especially in this climate. If you don’t like that ACD that is confirmation not to take the role.
This industry is going through the biggest change since the internet. And almost resetting especially with salaries.
Bc salaries grew exponentially with digital and social media bc senior leadership were desperate to hire talent that understood social media bc they don’t and can’t do the actual day to day work
This attracted a ton of people into social media bc demand was so high.
But now per economic fundamentals of supply vs demand, there is essentially an over supply of talent vs the demand.
Agencies, leadership and talent acquisition people know this along with all the layoffs the past two years, all of which are prompting them to put out lower salaries bc they know people are desperate.
All of this you need to consider in your job hunt.
But my advice is never go back in salary in this environment we are in now within this industry.
@SVP1 nailed it.
Never EVER go back on salary unless it’s to leave advertising altogether.
It’s normal to second-guess if the ACD felt off—culture fit matters a lot, and pay should reflect your worth, especially in a pricey market like California. The vibe of the team can make or break your day-to-day, so trust your gut and don’t settle just for the name.
You can always ask to meet more people. The CD/ECD above them and possibly more teammates on your level. It’s possible you spoke to one of the dickheads while there are many people you would like.

Well, let me tell you I make less than 120K and I live in California and it is not fun.
