Coach. Teach craft. Put together examples of best in class work and grill them on it. Give the permission to fail. Etc.

Don’t let being remote become an excuse.

This is a great question, and one I've been trying to find the solution to myself for some time. So far, we've really only got the weekly check-ins, but I'd love to find other ways to nurture the talent I know I have on my team.

Not to sound veeeery 2019 but consistent mentoring doesn’t fit with remote work.

Great question. All I have are 1:1s over video and it’s just not working well enough.

What can’t you do with a video 1:1 that you want to?

Seriously though, great question. Not sure I have the answer either.

Give them mini assignments for each session: look at this campaign and reverse engineer the brief. Look at this campaign and create the pitch deck for it. Find ways for them to polish their presentation skills and deck making skills. Break apart a commercial and talk about pre-pro. There are so many interesting things you can do and I promise, this will be super fun for you too!

Be as direct as possible at all times. And provide the space for them to do the same.

I provide book recommendations; send creative k love; make little challenges; show compassion and attention; let them ask me to take on a random creative challenge; randomly call and say (in a non performance related way) x client wants this, what would you do?

I always say any of these are not performance related but focused on mentorship.

Then I make them listen to Taylor Swift (this was a joke)
