What size companies are these? Equity pretty common for senior counsel roles (8+ YOE) at bigger pubcos. Those pubcos also usually have pretty rigid comp levels so you cant really negotiate anything other than base (within a range( while bonus % and equity amount is set by level.

serious talk SC1 is right, who cares about titles as long as you are doing cool work and/or getting paid alot
I’m not sure I understand the obsession with equity grants. I’d prefer cash comp any day.

its common in house cope. netflix has it right, give me alot of cash, and ill gamble it, or invest it or win the lotto
If you are senior enough, you can pitch it as your comp being tied to the success of the company. Say you want to stay and grow with the company, and getting equity (usually restricted during vesting schedule) will do that. But like others have mentioned, I do prefer cash given it offers me mobility without giving up RSUs, but you can always negotiate with your next employer to pay out what you are leaving on the table. Each company has a different policy/philosophy around equity grants, so you may not get it. Best luck to you!
