Would love some advice / thoughts. I went straight from law school to a corporate legal department in house for an asset manager. They like “home grown” talent and I “be worked hard and risen relatively quickly (AGC in 9 years). I work hard and get a lot of complicated deals done (structured products and private funds). I can’t shake certain people (in compliance department mainly) thinking I don’t have enough experience to do what I do because I didn’t come from a law firm. Any advice?

But in my current position, we’ve been adding quite a few new projects (and our team is partner, two staff, and me) that will probably start over the next couple of months. Hey all! Interviewing and need some insights about accepting a non-tech product marketing job. I currently work in SaaS but was offered a higher paying job in educational publishing. It’s a non-tech product marketing role. I want to take the job but I don’t know if moving out of tech would be a bad move for a product marketer? Would it be harder to pivot back to tech?

I am looking to make a career change to HR. I currently make 75K as a sales and development coach. What have you found to be good ways to help bridge gaps left from time out of class due to Covid? I teach 6th grade. We use iReady but feel like there are other sources I could use that would help fill in learning gaps.

I accepted an offer but am realizing that I low balled myself pretty bad. I know counterparts are making way more than me and I have about 9 years of experience. Outside counsel has been prepping company witnesses for a trial in August. It is my subject area so I am supervising outside counsel. I did not, however, choose the counsel. He is doing a really awful job. Co counsel is better, but not great either. Higher ups love the firm… I do not want to micromanage, but I have genuine concerns about outside counsel’s ability to try this case. Trials are rare, and I just don’t think these guys have actually tried many cases. Cont. below…

What’s a fair expectation for my first raise? Publicly traded co with ~2500 employees. I’ve been doing litigation with the company for almost 3 yrs and have only had a 2% cost of living raise so far. I’m an ERISA consultant for Marsh providing 3(21) and 3(38) services. I am interested in learning the opinion of in house counsel. Is it a priority in 2022 to outsource or mitigate fiduciary liability in light of the excessive fee lawsuits hitting employers? Would a trustee committee for a 401k plan hire a third party cofiduciary to share that risk? Lastly, what additional compensation should the 5500 signor receive when asked to be the trustee for a retirement plan?

Maybe a dumb question for a lawyer, but is it normal to not be allowed to review an invention assignment agreement and post-employment restrictive covenant agreement at the offer letter stage? I’m told they can’t share prior to onboarding (I’ll be asked to sign them then) but I know I’m not going to sign some crazy non-compete so would like to see the drafts before accepting the offer.
