We need more of this to change the culture
Coach
Turning something in at 11pm should not be normal operating procedure. Good legal thinking requires rest and a clear mind.
It *is* good to get drafts done early, at least in litigation. This is one of the secrets to managing the pressure of operating law at a high level.
Coach
Believe it or not, there are litigation partners who plan ahead and finalize drafts days before filing deadlines. The goals are to just be checking the filing rules and looking for typos on the last 2-3 days before a deadline.
This requires that the partner make the tough decisions necessary to finalize early. Not everyone is seasoned or confident enough to do this.
Thank YOU. I don’t know what’s wrong with those people. If there’s no urgency, there’s no need to create one then.
Might be worth asking the reason for the push
Mentor
No I work with this partner directly all the time and there was no reason for the push other than having it out b4 the 9am checklist call so we could pretend we didnt have anything in our court.
We had it outstanding on the call and the partner just said "we got this in last night and are taking a look and will revert" and kept on trucking. Was not a time crunch at all
This is a totally reasonable boundary
