Hey friend. I’m assuming you ask this question with the intent of recruiting / making connections. My thoughts are below.
1. LinkedIn makes for a better intro than FB IMO, due to the lack of anonymity / easier to make a connection, even if relatively superficial (same school, major, interest, etc.).
2. Recruiting is tightening / has tightened up. I assume this will make random FB referrals much harder to receive.
3. Most folks at MBB receive a ton of reach outs, so they don’t take every coffee chat. it’s still worth reaching out. Just don’t be upset if your reach out : chat ratio is like 10 : 1.
Finally, I say this with the absolute best intentions - some of the language in the post comes across as going out of your way to sound smart (I.e. “aspirant” or “illicit”, which I believe is “elicit” in this context). I mention this only to say that your reach outs will likely be more successful if you leave out that type of language. That said, I might be nitpicking on this one, so others feel free to keep me honest.

This is great advice - including the usage of language, appreciate your perspective!
Fishbowl referrals are almost useless. The point of getting a referral is to have a personal connection with someone that can vouch for you at their company.
I’m not a partner or something and I have no say in hiring decisions but if someone makes a personal effort to reach out to me on LI I will at least fwd your resume to my Partner/lead recruiter and say I talked to you and that you’re a good guy/gal.
