No one ever said “your creative sucks but your project management is spot on, so here take my business” Similarly no one ever says “your creative is awesome but you couldn’t project manage your way out of a paper bag, so here take my business”
Advertising is a business. It’s creative at the core but creative is only a small part of a larger whole. Just like films. Glamor and creativity are important, but only a small part of a larger business proposition that require many different types of skill sets.
I personally know many non-creatives who like the opportunity to be creative and craft meaningful brands, which is why they choose to work in advtg
I really just love the work/life balance in the industry.

I get to design entire brand experience ecosystems. Doing creative for individual bits and pieces of that ecosystem is just boring to me, in comparison. I'd rather do the big-picture work than get tactical, and most creative work is super tactical.
The variety of work and the overall vibe. But I do work at a small design studio so maybe that’s different than the bigger ones. I was thinking about switching to tech but I like a good balance of creative and tech. Also I may switch over to being a creative and it’s kind of nice being in creative teams and learning from them.

What? Where do you live? In NYC you have to have so much more hustle in you to be successful in this industry because we don’t have templated paths for success laid out for us. And we get paid very well here compared to in house.
The product is money. The approach was, and to a lesser degree still is, the creative, but it's not the only important thing anymore, it's just a piece of the current approach.
As for why? Advertising is fun.
I just saw a commercial that I pitched, strategized and aided in executing air while randomly watching tv. Those are the proud moments for me. The beauty and curse of being at a small firm is that I get to be both a creative and strategist.
