This is a really interesting shift OP and it was definitely worth the read. I don't know much about the app but it is definitely interesting to see what they are doing to change perception.

For my understanding Grindr had an interesting reputation and they are trying to make a shift in that. Probably with revenue in mind, which is always the case.
