First of all, not sure what you are advocating for. Yes there are bad adults and children should be listened to and protected from them. But children don't make things up? Have you ever had children/worked with children, seen children? They make stuff up all the time. If I took everything every child said to me at face value, I would have a strong belief in many imaginary things, I would truly believe that no teachers assign work, tell students about due dates, teach how to do any assignment. I have had students tell me that their teachers didn't do any of these things. Guess what they did. In terms of abuse which is where I think your headed there is accuracy in some of what you are saying but blanket statements like believe children are just as stupid as when we were going through Me Too and Believe women was the cry. Almost everyone is capable of lying when it's to their benefit. Each situation on it's own.
Sounds good maybe work on your ability to communicate your intent. You said "children don't make stuff up". Which means people age 0-18 don't state falsehoods. Now you are getting offended and accusatory about how we are supporting child abuse because we respond to what you wrote rather than what you think you meant. Young child reporting abuse you better believe I'm contacting authorities. High school-er talking about how someone stole his pencil because he knows he left it right here, not buying it. If you only wanted discussion on the former maybe say that.
I have to say the premise that children don't make things up is deeply flawed. Most children have an active imagination. And while children should be taken seriously, the credibility of what they say should be considered the same as one would for an adult. I wouldn't say children are always dishonest. But it would be wrong to go to the other extreme and believe them blindly.
its not flawd cause you adults find excuses in a book to excuse something in your mind made up. there diffrence between pretend and being harm. Something you clearly lack and i advise to quit your job
I understand what you are saying, but I don't think some others do. If a child tells you he has a pet dinosaur that loves to play hide-and-seek, that is his imagination running wild. If he tells you "Daddy hit Mama last night," he is reporting what he saw. Now, understand that children may misinterpret what they saw. Did Daddy punch Mama in the stomach or did he give her a playful swat on the butt? If a child has a bruise on her arm that looks like a hard grip occurred and she tells you she got that bruise when Mama grabbed her and shook her because she didn't pick up her toys like she was told to, a teacher has a legal responsibility to report a suspicion of child abuse. If a child routinely shows up to school with welts, bruises, etc., most teachers take action. Failure to do so is not only against the law but could end in tragedy.
CCAT-many of your posts are hard to follow due to poorly-worded statements. You should proofread before you post.
Technically, it doesn't matter if we believe them or not. We are mandatory reporters and any abuse, real or imagined, that a child reveals to us needs to be treated as true and reported as such. It is not our job to be the detectives. In WV, we have 24 hours to report or we lose our jobs. And yes, one of my colleagues reported at the 26th hour (literally) and was removed from her position. We have no less than three agencies that we must file a report with before we satisfy our duties.

That’s right. We are mandated reporters, operative word is ‘mandated’. You hear something or see something you must report, if you don’t follow the law you can and will be liable if something happens. I saw it happen in my own district- ppl were fired, more than one. Teachers and a principal got lawyers and drained their savings accounts trying to keep their name out of the mud. Let the professionals do the investigation and figure it out. That’s not our job!

Yes, unfortunately -like in any field… there are bad adults in schools- twice in my district a teacher was reported to CPS and in both cases the teacher was eventually fired. Another visually impaired teacher was fired for fondling blind students. It’s rare, but it does happen and I’m sure it happens more often than what ppl think. Just pray that you’re in a district that takes this shit seriously. Not all districts do-
You need to rewrite your post. Lots of errors there
Look up the McMartin pre-school case in CA. Kids were led to make wild claims that were untrue.
Yes, we are mandatory reporters, for the safety of the children, but the statement that children don't make things up is false. I used to believe it until I had my daughter. My mom owned and operated a daycare and when my daughter would come home with a bruise or scratch, she would tell me that Grandma pushed her down on the playground. She would also go to daycare and tell them that I pushed her down the stairs. We were fortunate that she never got hurt seriously where I had to take her to the emergency room or I would have been in jail and she would have been removed from my custody. Children do make up falsehoods. Hopefully the authorities will be able to discern the truth, and our children will be protected from abuse and from their imaginations as well.
