Sadly, this is how many recruiters operate. Have not enjoyed the vast majority of recruiters I have interacted with. Their goal is to get a placement fee out of you (via a future employer), and most of them treat their job like a numbers game.

If you didn't commit to work with them, tell them to stop purporting to represent you. If you did make some commitment, honor it (i.e. do the interview) and then tell them the relationship is over. From what you're saying, I presume there's nothing in writing, so if you want to end your association it shouldn't be a challenge.
They are “recruiters” which means they do very little for a living.
