So I live in Minnesota and have been unemployed since the day before Thanksgiving 2025.
I share an apartment with a roommate who suddenly will be moving out at the end of January. Our lease is up in June 2026.
I have worked at all the Walmarts, Target stores etc around me. They won't hire me back. Done nothing wrong they just wont hire me back.
I can't find a job. I was thinking of moving to Madison Wisconsin but not sure that would solve my problem. Any Advice?

You might be correct because the job market and economy are bad throughout not only America but the world. Sounds like you have been blacklisted by both Walmart and Target which would also extend to all their stores around the world. Have you had your resume checked to make sure it will pass the AI / ATS that employers use instead of physically reviewing all the applications?

Try applying before you decide to move. That is probably the safer bet. Do you think you are ineligible to be rehired? Not to say you did anything wrong, but sometimes even not providing enough of a leave of notice can get that label.

I’m sorry to hear that. Having looked for a new job for nine months myself, I completely understand how you’re feeling and what you’re going through. I’d suggest finding a job before you move, as that will make the transition much smoother.

I live in that area. Rents are high, but it's a college town so it would be fairly easy for you to find a roommate situation to reduce housing costs. There are a lot of hotels and grocery stores hiring right now. I definitely suggest doing a lot of research and applying for jobs before you decide to move. You can always set up multiple interviews, and look for a place to live, over a couple of days and make a trip down before you move.

Recently joined the firm as a project delivery specialist. During recruiting, the team harped on how great my background was and how much a good fit I would be for the firm/project...

Well, I was on an onboarding call and they were talking about staffing and projects. The presenter said to reach out to them if you don’t think your project is a good fit. In his words “you were hired into the firm, not a specific project. We see you here long term... With the exception of PDM model” 😅

How is typically life for these positions requiring travel? This is for a SWE position.
Currently work with clients is remote as stated by the recruiter. If work is currently feasible through virtual means, will there be flexibility to choose to travel for this position?

I have an offer with PWC and have a family. I would prefer to be with my family.

Who was at the ADCC? Thoughts on the NABs stunt?

Been in the strat game for over a decade; I’ve realized that a strong department with clear process that is built on end to end problem solving (with time to think) is when I’m happiest vs this award show / case study grind. What are some agencies you all work or have worked at, that value strategy as a department and not a creative case study farm? Looking to figure out what’s next.

Last night I went over to my friends house (she has 2 kids, 2 and 4 yo). She and her husband were asking me about my pregnancy and planning. And were asking what I’ve prepped to date. I’m only 13w2 days so I think it’s way to early for buying stuff, but I did mention we hired a baby nurse for when the baby comes. My friend completely berated me, short of calling me a bad mom already, saying “what is she going to do all day? Don’t you want to bond with your child?”. I’m so upset by this.

If 2+ people submit a referral on your behalf at their company for a position you recently applied for, does it make you stand out even more/increase your chances of getting an interview vs. just 1?

How do you keep up/in touch with your network? Mine barely post anything on LinkedIn, so commenting on their posts is out of the question, and apparently it's impolite to just message or email them if the job searcher doesn't have anything to share besides asking for a referral or opening. If I don't have any relevant information to share with them, what should I do?

Worst part about being unemployed is the pity face everyone makes when you tell them. If I hear one more "don't worry you'll find something soon" I'm going to scream. Trying to be helpful is one thing but pitying me helps no one and makes me uncomfortable.
