Hi all! I was thinking about changing industries. I am currently an underwriter for for-hire transportation with 7.5 YOE. Wondering what others have found to be transferable skills or if anyone has made a career change. Also curious what other career paths other underwriters have gone on (possible changing departments or line of business, etc). Any info or suggestions appreciated!!

We have a few tracks for underwriting on the benefits side that take you into data analytics, predictive modeling, population health management, pharmacy carve-out, etc. Underwriting skills themselves regardless of focus are easily transferable to other analytics positions. Great place to be- you should be excited at the possibilities!

That sounds great! Thank you!!

Moved to in-house mktg manager, only to be a glorified graphic designer / someone to call the city to cut down trees. I job hopped too much, I feel my portfolio is empty. How do I restart again? I feel defeated.

I started QA at the company I am currently at 3 years ago. Long story short, within 4 months at the company, I was able to make a career change and step into a PM position. Without having the formal education or PM experience, only my 5 years in QA experience. When I started I made $65k and have jumped to $78k. I have seen other companies post $100k+. Annual review is tomorrow. Should I fight for more or look for more somewhere else if I lose that fight?

Hello all, i have. A question regarding compensation for a lateral move. I just received a job offer for an UA position from a competing cyber insurance carrier for $70,000 + bonuses. This job will be based out of San Francisco. I currently make $30/hour for the same role in Chicago, after OT it’s about $60,000. Do you think it would be wise to accept the offer? I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

If you’re a manager and you see an employee that wants to branch out into a different department, why would you keep them boxed in for 2+ years?

Are there some background mechanics that I’m missing?
