Living in western PA my entire life, I never knew that weddings outside of the area did NOT have a cookie table. I thought it was just a wedding thing. Lol. So, no, your MIL is not trolling you. You will have containers for people to take home cookies as well.
Pittsburgh cookie table it legit. Family and friends invited bake cookies for the table and you have boxes/containers for people to take cookies home
Many? Shoot, I’ve never been to one that didn’t have one.
A Pittsburgh wedding without a cookie table isn’t a Pittsburgh wedding.
A wedding without a cookie table isn’t a wedding.
100%. KPMG is correct, you will need to offer take home containers as well. Please note, you will likely have guests judging the cookies you provide. Don't think you're going to lay down some Giant Eagle thumbprints and think it's a wrap... Homemade and lots of variety is key.
It’s definitely a legit tradition. My wife and I had one and every one of my friends that were married here had one. Make sure you have boxes for guests to take cookies home.
So when I first heard about this I thought it was a joke, but cookie tables are a real thing and taken very seriously!
Especially for any out of town guests, the cookie table blows peoples’ minds because they’ve never seen it. It’s a hit across the board and automatically differentiates your wedding from others for those people who aren’t from Pittsburgh.
I understand that this is actually a (very nice) custom there.
It’s real and elite. My fiancé is from PGH, we are getting married in another city and her moms #1 concern is cookie table. Been to plenty of weddings with them and it’s an awesome (and delicious) touch
Very real! We didn't have a cake at all and just did the cookie table at our wedding. We did our "cake cutting" moment with a cookie plate.
Yes cookie tables are a Pittsburgh thing!
Went to a wedding in Pittsburgh once that didn't have a cookie table. They had a cookie room!
If your in Pittsburgh you gotta have a cookie table…all the aunts should make them and you should also have some prepped too by local bakeries or the venue.
100% real. If you are Italian it is EXTREME. Like, your dinner could be cookies.

Yes to the cookie table!
Do both!!!
It’s a real thing but honestly it’s usually done in a cheap way - find a way to be more creative with it or get nicer cookies lol
How do I get invited to these weddings?!
Both of my sisters and I were born and raised in Pittsburgh and got married here.. we all opted not to have a cookie table. It is a pain to coordinate and sounds/looks nice if you do it right but it is just one more thing for your to do list. And typically you have to recruit family and friendly to bake and contribute to it.. headache in my opinion.
Cookie table is an absolute Pittsburgh tradition at weddings.
