Orale! Estoy de acuerdo. I'm sick of feeling like a SF satellite city. I love some of the new entertainment here, but I don't love the tech bro vibe either. Like even though Austin is different from the rest of Texas, it doesn't mean that we want our city to feel like California. That's my thought anyway.
Fantastic the less the better , bring back the city to its old relaxed vibes 😂😂. Formula is broken … it’s an another whole corporate like “keep Austin weird”.

I just needed a bigger city
I'm not going to lie I have been thinking about moving. The city just seems to keep growing and its almost feeling too big for me lately. I have been looking at some smaller places to move to in the next year or so.
Agree with others people are leaving the city in droves. Look at the AISD numbers alone but surrounding school districts getting massive growth numbers. Housing costs plays a huge factor but so do the idiots leaders that Austin keeps electing.
Despite the whole “blue dot in a sea of red” vibe, Austin is still in Texas. And it’s not very climate change resilient. However much I’m loving this city now, I’m not planning to get pregnant and buy a house and grow old here. I’m happy here for now. I see myself here for probably the next 2-4 years.
People are leaving because they most likely lost their job or it was too expensive for them to stay.

To clarify - I live in hill country. Austin as a city is fine but not a draw for me
I love it here, but the housing prices are insane. If I leave, it would be because it expensive.
Hate to burst your bubble, but the migration out of TravisCounty is for cheaper housing in surrounding countes, not leaving Austin. So I expect worse traffic with more commuters. Although much of the business growth is also in neighboring counties, we can hope.
Is that really still the case? I thought that was a bit of a negative hype on YouTube last year bc influencers wanted clicks with flashy headlines (and housing was overpriced) but that we‘re back to growth
Well POD still haamore miving out than 1st Qtr 2024. But that may be more of a sign about which demographic is moving out. Haven't seen info from full service movers
I moved out of Austin, too much crime was happening.
I moved here in 2021 from LA. I plan on staying here for at least another 3-4 years. It’s so strange to live in a city that has streets without sidewalks. That was the first thing I noticed when I moved here. That plus a lot of the places that did have sidewalks were usually empty, unless you’re in the really core part of the city.
To me, that doesn’t seem like the 10th biggest city in the US.
We have a kid on the way and once she’s starting Pre-K, we plan on moving to a city where the summers aren’t scorching and where the parks aren’t empty so she can be a kid.
The city could require trees on the sidewalk instead of in people’s front yard. That would provide some shade to walk under and make it a somewhat decent experience. It would protect people walking on the sidewalk from the occasional speeding or out of control car. That might prevent people from speeding though, so not likely happening anytime soon.
