Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

This just reminds us, ALL of us (customers, co-workers, supervisors) that no one knows the struggles that we face, and a bit of sympathy instead of judgment would go a long way.
ESPECIALLY customers. Pity they never get the message.
This frustrates me often. People will talk about themselves all the time but refuse to listen. I always hear about everyone else's problems, but those same others could bear witness to what I actually go through & they all just hold their heads down & keep quiet. Whenever I speak, I'm always ignored. However, when I'm quiet & keep to myself, I'm always accused of having an attitude. I can't quit because nowhere else is hiring & I don't have a vehicle to relocate.
Have you ever considered carpooling with a coworker? If not, most people are willing to help if you ask. I know for my job the managers are able to pick up employees of the same sex. Try asking for help I’ll help you and the company
I can relate. I guess I have that resting B face and all my coworkers make a point to let me know it. It gets really old, like this is my actual face, would you like to buy me some plastic surgery or something? I'm not even in a bad mood, but coworkers constantly asking me PUTS me in a bad mood. I've thought about casually mentioning how it actually negatively affects me, but I haven't really worked up the courage to speak up yet.
That's a good point. There are definitely individuals at our store that it would be pointless to try to bring it up to. I just hate that the options are 1. deal with it or 2. don't. I also feel like if I speak up, they'll immediately think I'm trying to say something negative since they already assume I'm in a mood.
That sounds so exhausting, I can't blame you for not being super chipper at work. I don't get why any customer would feel the need to complain about it, aside from having such easy lives that the worst thing that happens to them all day is a worker not beaming at their presence. As long as you're polite and do your job well, nothing else should really matter.
I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I know it can be very hard to put a smile on your face when you're exhausted and drained. I have an 8 month old baby who's teething and barely sleeping so it's difficult for me to be perky and happy at work. But the truth is this is the nature of the job and some of us even if we don't mean to just have a "mean" resting face. I just do my best to smile more than I think I should so I don't get a complaint.
I understand walking like that.
Although I cannot lift more than 5 pounds most people make faces when lifting heavy items.
I am sorry but you do not need their comments about that. Next time if they say something hand them the boxes and thank them for their help.
Wow, that sounds really exhausting. Is it possible to take the bus instead? You might have a little bit of time off your feet and in an air-conditioned environment. It is frustrating how tiring the work can be and we still have to do it with a smile. I don't know of any other kind of profession, besides maybe nursing, where people have to be so happy all the time despite the physical and mental exhaustion.
Perhaps if you left in time to arrive to work 15 minutes early you can rest for a few minutes before your shift begins. Drink some water, have a snack of fruit or protein. Wash your hands and face , massage your face and head for one minute and speak kindly to yourself. Remind yourself that the job you are about to do is important , and as you put one foot in front of the other you are walking towards your future self. And dont forget to stretch!

That sounds exhausting—long walks, heavy work, and no time to recharge. It’s rough when tiredness gets mistaken for attitude. Hope you find some moments to rest and reset soon!
Felt, I bike a collective 22+km every day I work. What bugs me most about it is all the incredulous reactions I get to it. It's like, aside from the necessity of it, not having my license and all, I actively enjoy biking, but people act like it's either pitiful or insane and I just don't get it.
Do you intake a lot of protein to at least gain some muscle from all the movement? Also are you able to bike to work?
