So I’m a single mom and have 2 middle school kids. Usually my mom comes to help me out a few times a week. This week my mom is out of town so I’m solo parenting. I’m seriously tired without the extra pair of hands. Work is suffering a little bit because I’m so tired… My boss just noticed a few mistakes I don’t usually make. Should I explain my situation to my boss or just let it be unless I get in big trouble? How personal do you get with your boss?

It depends on how good of a relationship you have with your boss and the type of person they are. If you're close, they're empathetic, and you're comfortable opening up to them, tell them what's going on. If not, keep it to yourself and just try to get through this week. I don't share anything personal with mine because I'm sure he doesn't care and wouldn't empathize with any of my struggles.

Yeah I’m not sure - I think he’d be empathic, but then again, he doesn’t have kids so….

If you made some mistakes and it was nothing colossal you should just forget about it and move on. Telling your boss about your problems at home probably won't help any. It's usually better to leave home stuff at home. And compartmentalize and concentrate on work when you're there.

Yeah I’ll try to do that better… but home life definitely bleeds into work life and vice versa. It’s so hard to separate the 2…

I keep hearing that Booth’s MBA program is rigorous (maybe the most rigorous out of M7). That said, how much more work are students expected to do compared to HBS, Wharton, Kellogg, etc.? I don’t know if this is an outdated opinion, considering a lot of MBAs are very demanding. Booth is personally my top choice for having a flexible curriculum & 2-3 days of classes. But I really want to know what to expect around the “rigorous” label. Does it mean I’ll be buried in coursework the other 2-3 days?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

Additional Posts in Restaurants & Food Services

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
