Standard promo timeline to upgrade from manager at most firms seems to be 2-3 years, but it looks like quite a few managers at Alvarez & Marsal get stuck at that level for 2-3 years longer before making director. Is there some sort of big pay bump built in to make up for the fact that A&M doesn’t have senior managers? Or are highly experienced managers at A&M just getting shafted compared to their peers with similar YOE?

I’ve been working as an APM at my current company for 1yr, and have basically been doing the work of a full blown PM the entire time. I’ve lead several features from start to finish and made sure to mention in my resume that I have been doing everything a regular PM does. I accepted a new job, they said PTO was “generous.” I find out it’s 19 days a year of PTO (which includes sick days). I have two young children and we like to vacation 1-2x a year (no more than a few days away each time). Am I crazy that this is pretty limited time off? 8 of the normal holidays off during the year (working the week between Christmas and NYE). Thoughts? I dont know if lack of PTO is a good reason to back out, is it?

I recently passed the CFE and was looking into the CAMS next. Any suggestions on how to best prepare for the CAMS? I’ve been mostly reviewing the index cards that come with the prep material.

Decided that I’m leaving audit today. Trying to understand the full range of opportunities in forensics. Will have my CPA and CFE. So far, I understand that there are client-serving firms like FTI and then the B4 will have forensics arms as well. What are some other forensic accounting roles? Pros and cons? Better than audit? Honestly just looking to learn anything.

Anyone have a CFE designation and taken the test recently? Debating about getting it wasn’t sure if it’s worth it.
