The unfortunate truth is that many companies treat product and and titles very differently.
I would look for what have you done to execute and whether or not you can continue doing so with more cooks in the kitchen and stakeholders and scope increase.
I think that you could get a role as a PM. I have heard people moving from APM to PM, however you may need some more experience before having success getting a role, but it can't hurt to try. Transitioning from APM to PM occurs at places like Google after a set number of years of experience, but you have success transitioning now as you have direct skills/core necessary experience to transition it sounds like.
I applied to a company that’s raised a series B and is growing pretty quickly! This is helpful thank you!

Tbh with you, luck and timing had a lot to do with it for me. I was in the same position as you a year ago. And the company that hired me as a PM was growing like crazy, so they were looking for someone who could grow with the new role and didn’t mind my lack of experience.
But I did put myself out there and initially applied for the job despite not having the basic qualifications. So I guess my advice would be to just apply everywhere and see what companies would take a chance with you. Usually those type of companies have new roles in Product and are trying to expand the org.
Oh and from asking more senior PMs how they got to where they are now, it seems like the majority of them just knew the right people. So networking seems to work well. Definitely don’t be afraid to reach out to people for new opportunities or referrals. It helps you get a foot in the door.
Luck and timing got me my role as well! I applied to a rapidly growing company with a super innovate product that’s pretty specific to a younger generation. so i’m hoping they want someone young with some experience and a lot of ideas. this is helpful thank you!

I’ve got 1.5 years as a PM and trying to recruit in Europe in this economy hasn’t been fun. A few hiring managers froze my process and are only hiring people with 4+ YoE.
Currently looking at other functions and geographies, hoping to move back to product after a masters.
