Started a job a month ago. Today I got an email about benefits changing….less PTO, no more vision coverage, less medical coverage. I am obviously upset about this as I did my salary negotiations based on the level of benefits I thought I would receive. Is there anything I can do to/ try to negotiate in terms of salary comp for these new worse benefits?

Probably not, to be honest. My guess is that this is affecting everybody, not just you. You can always try but I doubt they will be open to negotiations if you've already been there a month.

like

That’s fair, yes it is affecting everyone

Can't hurt to ask, but you're probably SOL. Pulling a bait and switch like that is really scummy of them. I'd be pissed. Bet all your new coworkers are too.

like

Yeah, sentiment overall is not very positive. Thank you for the reality check tho - it does feel like I’m sol

Ye olde bait and switch. There's nothing you can do but move on to a different company. Particularly since you're new and just accepted an offer, it's just as easy for them to see you out.

like

Very fair….thank you!

A change in benefits isn’t really a bait & switch. These things are negotiated in advance. Nobody wants to screw employees when it comes to healthcare and coverage but sometimes it happens contracts have to be renegotiated and the terms just change. Sometimes favorably and sometimes unfavorably. The good thing is healthcare is something that can be changed and if enough people speak up about their dissatisfaction then HR is likely to take a look at try to negotiate better rates for next year or get into a different contract. It’s sucks to have benefits change like that after you’ve started but this could’ve happened anywhere. And again, they didn’t do this to you—it’s happening to the company.

Appreciate the perspective, it does feel a little bait and switch to me but I see the point that for others it’s not that since they have been here longer. Will definitely reach to hr to express feelings and see if that does anything

Hi, folks I am working as market research analyst at a startup company for last 9 months. Currently I am feeling work is kinda boring and also there is no scope for growth and learn new things in the company. Is it's better work at the same company to gain some experience or leave company and join MBA course so that I will get better placement in big companies where I can learn new things.

What's the best form of compensation to ask for and why?

My employers' CEO just announced that they just received $7 million from investors. He wants to use that money to offer incentives to employees that hussle and drive more revenue for the company. We're not sure what those incentives look like yet, but here are some post-announcement rumors from my co-workers:

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

I'm new to all this. Is it best to save 10% of my salary all in my company's 401k (with 20% match, increasing by 5% every year)... or saving 5% in 401k and 5% in a Roth IRA?

Anybody know salary range for VP Operations for GS in SLC?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?
