Did your firm’s leadership send a message re the horrific shooting? Before I lateraled we always got emails from leadership, which IMO were very humanizing and appreciated. New firm leadership seems to just avoid — probably to not appear politically involved. Your thoughts on these types of current events and firm acknowledgment?

Something is deeply wrong with a country when mass shootings are repeatedly happening at schools (i.e., killing children) and the messaging is being so carefully crafted so as not to offend those who love their guns.

like

They will be sending an email every flipping day. This country is toast.

like

Mine did and they use very careful language to avoid the political angles.

I couldn’t care less about leadership’s freezing cold takes on current events, but I appreciate that they apparently recognize that many people do expect a response.

Ropes does a great job with this. Didn’t realize it until after I lateraled out.

like

No. Wouldn’t be surprised if we did, because we do get a lot of emails about major events, but not sure that I’ve gotten one about a shooting before.

I actually got an email from my local office leadership about Roe v. Wade after the leak, which absolutely shocked me even when it wasn’t from firm HQ but I really appreciated so much.

like

I regard those emails with indifference. I can type out a post saying that I treasure and value them if that would make me look better though.

Recently interviewed at Adobe, it was great. Even the senior designer I was connected with escalated it a lot. But then suddenly after the last interview, I haven’t heard in a week from them even after multiple follow ups. Recruiter said she will reach out on Monday, but even Tuesday passed now. Should I wait a week or move on for other offers?

Anyone worried about firms over-hiring? Our firm has hired a LOT of people. I know we need it now / the past year, but will this bubble pop?

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

Random partner asked a litigation-related question to a partner I frequently work with (i’m a transactional associate). My partner cc’d me and said for me to briefly look. Asked the library. They got me a great case. Sent it back. Now the random partner is asking for more cases in another circuit.

I haven’t done caselaw research since 1L and this isn’t even my practice… wtf do I do (I am fully utilized in my normal work and have a few deals closing soon…)

When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!
