Starting my first big pharma job in the next two weeks, and I'm super excited but also nervous, because I come from a completely different world, coming from a startup biotech background. The role I'm going to be taking is on the strategy side of the business. I'm very aware that the culture and pace are a totally different ballgame, but it'd be nice to know if there are tips/lessons I can learn before I'm thrown in the deep end.

I think the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to find your internal allies. Every big org has its informal network of people who get things done. Find those folks early, and your job will be so much easier. Also, bring your biotech mindset with you. Big pharma really values and will look for ways up for fresh, agile thinking now more than ever. Your ability to think fast, pivot, and challenge processes will set you apart.

Figure out who the people w/power are. Information flows downhill in bigger companies, so find some sources and keep them confidential. You'll learn about changes coming down the way before your manager lets you know. Knowledge is key.

Negotiation in new offer: I’m moving from fully remote to fully in office (with chance of hybrid later) offer for associate director in quality in pharma for 170k base, 18% bonus and 75k equity. I’ve asked for a sign on bonus as I’m not eligible for annual next year and will be missing my current jobs bonus. I should hear tomorrow (asking for 28k). Thoughts about the offer? Should I ask for more equity or is that standard? They’re public (currently ~$20)should I get the hybrid option in writing?

Hi
Applied for a position in Johnson and Johnson Canada. Reached the final round 3 weeks back. After not getting any updates I emailed the HR a couple of weeks back. They responded back telling me that they’ll have an update for me the next week. Again I emailed them on Thursday asking if they have anything for me before the long weekend ( Good Friday & Easter). No response whatsoever. Will emailing them again be inappropriate? I desperately need this job

Please help! I’m a CRC who manages Investigator- led clinical research projects and I want to transition to a PM role in industry (I would slightly prefer not a PM role in clinical trials since I don’t have clinical trial experience.) I’ve applied to PM roles at many biotech companies (e.g. Charles River, ICON, Paraxel) but only got 1 interview which didn’t work out. Which companies should I look to for an entry level PM role? Any good startups to consider? Anyone have any insight or advice?
