I guess I’d be curious how much of your book is portable to what must be substantially higher rates at the GP? And is your take home you’re modeling at the new firm dependent on that?
(Edit: I did read your post and reference to “new clients,” so perhaps you’re hinting the book won’t travel but expect there to be clients you can service upon arrival. I guess that just needs to be thought through, that was my main takeaway)

When I was at a Big3 I felt like it was a good enough place to work but I was having trouble stomaching the fact I could make 100s more at a different firm for the same effort. I also got the sense that I could have floated there forever but I also felt like the firm pushed a narrative on associates that it was the only place we could succeed. I’m at a business firm now (employment, contracts, biz orgs) and there’s a bit of a curve but it’s better.
Portable book is probably no more than 200-250k. And i’m not guaranteeing that. Firm says if I bring nothing it’s still worth it to them based on skill set and area of expertise. Rate increase of anywhere from 175-225 on average.
How much do you make currently? Is there a job security concern with the transition? Is it worth the new risks is what I’d focus on as there’s always more money to be made but stress control is a major factor for me personally
165k more than what amount?
$0. OP does it for the love of the game,
Let’s say somewhere north of 500 with the raise.
Eh. I’m torn on this. If you think there’s runway to grow your book, you could eclipse the current raise you’re being offered by making equity at a big 3. I think you have to be honest with yourself about what the next 3-5 years could look for you on the biz development front. You’ll likely develop fewer of your own clients at a GP firm doing specialist work at higher rates.
