The only reason to stay in the hotels near Times Sq is if you’re working in Midtown and need something walkable.
I like the W Union Square and that’s in a much better location.
Has it re-opened? Thought it was closed for renovations? Or at least the downstairs bar.
Would advise against staying there. It’s chaos there.
Lol I think (hope) it means to avoid Times Square which I also agree with.
Avoid Times Square
Love The Edition! There are two locations with one being closer to Times Square
I will check it out. Thanks!!
St. Regis on 55th
Ritz by Central Park
If more on a budget:
Le Méridien also by Central Park
The W (I prefer Union Square but there’s a Times Square location too, which is just so busy)
Your response made it sound like the hotel I listed isn’t a Marriott, buddy
I suppose if Broadway shows are your focus it could make sense. The Chatwal is probably my favorite property, though it’s been a while since I’ve stayed there. There’s also the just-opened Ritz Nomad. The AC Downtown likely has the greatest point value and ability to use certificates, though it’s far from luxurious
Pro
It depends on what you want to do while you’re in town. If you’re going to shows on Broadway, TS is an excellent choice. But if you plan to spend time in the Park, I’d suggest the Essex House. If you want to be downtown, there are a few choices. But Op, would be helpful if you told us what you’re planning for the rest of the visit.
Be careful when you say “downtown.” “Downtown” in NY is the southern end of Manhattan where the seaport is and where the WTC was. It’s effectively just an area of the city and may not be what you actually mean/want (though the WTC memorial is worth seeing and you might want to take a ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from there, or you can take the free Staten Island ferry that passes right by both without stopping)
Pro
Also, hotel prices and availability are at or exceed pre-pandemic level. You should plan to book ASAP if you’re planning to use an instrument.
JW Marriott Essex House
Echoing all and suggesting you stay near Union Square. Times Square is good for a walk by when seeing a musical then avoid at all costs.
