Philly teacher, holding on until President Day weekend!!!

We have inservice on Presidents Day, so our next time off is spring break in mid-March—only 4 more weeks! It will fly. For me, Halloween through spring break is the fastest part of the school year. The entire month of October and the end of April through the last day are the rough periods, depending on the group I have.

Ever year carnivals (second largest only to Rio de Janeiro). Nearly half a million people go out in Fancy dress, as do the Americans in Halloween, as party all night and almost every night for a whole week. Great Fun!!

Same here! Ski week first and then spring break last 😣💪🏽🥹

Going through a closeout. 50-50 profit share allocation, but my business partner has been using the venture money at their personal piggy bank (hence the breakup). My accountants say because we agreed to 50-50 shares, the leftover money has to be divided equally.

They spent $100k in the last month on random "work stuff" but bought a new car, etc. Now I have to pay for it with less equity return!

Just wanted to rant, I'll probably never go into a partnership again.

How do you engage your students in more reading outside of what is required in the classroom? With each passing year I am finding an ever shrinking population of students, including honors students, who actually read beyond what is posted in social media or video games. Students willingly volunteer that they do not read and most parents see it as a non-issue. I tell my students that the best readers are usually the best writers. What are some strategies that you use beyond reading logs ?

I’m thinking about moving up to a high school English position from 8th grade English. Mainly I’m looking for a change. Any thoughts on the differences I’d be facing?

I have high school children of my own, but disciplining high schoolers has always intimidated me for some reason. I have excellent classroom management, but I feel like high schoolers are a little smarter ab getting around rules and less worried about consequences.

I’m told by an hs tchr that the grading load is ab the same.
