What do you all use to file for taxes after switching to h1b?

Can folks recommend good investment options for gaining Compound Interest, high returns long terms in your financial portfolio. Have regular 401k, share holding, kids 529 r plan, hsa saving account, very limited exposure and currently downward trending stock and crypto. Any recommendations? 1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date).
