Like this to vote for the hard G!
The 'g' literally stands for "graphic" - how do you justify a 'j' sound from that?
I agree with the hard "g", as in graphic.
I work in digital media, and have since I was 15 (almost 30 years). I work specifically at a digital media management company that has over 1M developers on our platform and most of us us the hard "g".

Well, the creator used soft-g:
https://time.com/5791028/how-to-pronounce-gif/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CIt's%20pronounced%20JIF%2C%20not%20GIF,G%2C'%20pronounced%20'jif
Jif like jiffy peanut butter
Definitely soft.
Why does everyone keep spelling Jif wrong?
My husband insists it’s soft. We’ve had this debate. 🤦♀️
Gotta Go with G G G Gif... sounds dumb with people pronounce it with the other letter that is no where in the word.

Like giraffe?
jifs and jpegs were the norm back in the day, until people started mispronouncing it outside of how the creator pronounced it. now both are acceptable.
well, Doc Brown says jigga-watts, but there's no peanut butter called Gif...
"jif", like everyone who was around in tech while we invented everything in the 90s to 00s. the hard G thing is a marker of non-tech people.
same way -- how do you pronounce "vi"? answer: the way the in-group tech community does, "vee eye", or you mark yourself outside it.
It was invented in the 80’s actually, and while people back then said it with a soft “g”, the hard “g” pronunciation has become widely used. It has nothing to do with being part of the tech community. The hard “g” can be considered more valid because “graphics”.
wait, the creators are dead?
The creator insisted it was a soft G, and the tech industry overwhelmingly disagrees. Hard G all the way.
Stated another way, "Gif, Jif....eh, it's all jood."
