Does anyone else feel that calling some minority SA hires “diversity fellows” and the like is somewhat of a dog whistle? JD - graduated in May. I started working for a small firm in March, during my last semester. I stayed with the firm until this month: pay was garbage, and supervisor started treating me poorly when they found out I was interviewing for other firms.

A friend is considering deferring an offer (stem PhD) for 1 year straight out of undergrad to work in NY, either in a research institution or a biotech. She does not have any real work experience outside of her lab (3 years) and an adjacent internship. Another factor is she is just generally feeling burnt out on school after the last few years.
