The COVID federal money can be used on bonuses for teacher retention. The fact that it isn’t being used that way in so many places shows the dire straits school funding is now. It would be wonderful to get raises and be paid more, but where would the money come from? We are in a pandemic and the economy is grinding to a halt. Just wait until the commercial real estate bubble finally pops and the shipping crisis actually starts to be felt. We have much harder times coming.

PublicEd differs because it is a government entity- the accounting/financial process also differs. Other state/federal agency budgets are are also prioritized within the political process vs. private sector priorities, (profit) as I understand. This is a reason many criticize our military spending and allocations, they do not view it as the highest national priority. Perhaps those that vote for it do.

Many districts, including mine, are offer bonus and incentive pay to new hires. Our district is loosing teachers because of this; and I imagine other districts are too. Why don’t they pay us to stay?

Great question! Not desired, or not affordable? New hires are less expensive than veterans, and more benefits (also performed in industry over the decades).

I only plan on staying in consulting for about 2 more years then off for an MBA. Would it be more worth it to take a level and pay raise at a different big4 moving to senior level rather than going to associate/analyst level at MBB? These are my two choices at the moment. I want to position myself best for post MBA jobs in industry. Salary will def be lower at MBB compared to the senior level at big4 so not sure if it’s worth the trade off in experience.
