I'm feeling it, too. I signed my contract last week, though, because I don't know what else to do. This year has been challenging. I always feel refreshed after summer. I'm trying to remind myself that this time of year is always especially difficult because of state testing and spring fever. I try to pursue both professional and personal development over the summer, and spend as much time with family as possible.
Set emotional goal responses for your self. Post them around your desk or at something that you look at every day; so that you are constantly staying focused on who and what you are giving your energy to. I got so angry at a student last year that I internalized the anger and I had unbearable shoulder pain for months. Meanwhile back at the ranch he still carried on misbehaving with other teachers. I swore from that moment on that I would pay real close attention to my emotional responses to even the worst of situations.
Really enjoy your summer and plan a lot of "me" time...and don't feel guilty for it...it's for you and to help benefit your career and the people around you that you serve.
That’s a tough place to be...is it parents? admin? kids? All of the above? Is there one positive thing you can focus on? One special kid, maybe?
Dear lord, you special ed teacher deserve all the props!!! I know my limitations and I couldn't do what you do. If people are telling you it's the "reverse," they lie.
But I can relate. Moral in our building is awful. Finally got a new principal which is helping, but unfortunately it's like a class....only takes 1-2 to disrupt the apple cart. Hang in there! Join Twitter if you're not on already. I recently did and have to say there are many positive vibes/people on there to get you through the day.
