Vaccinated people can still contract COVID and are contagious even though they might not have symptoms.
If you teach anyone under the age of 12, they are not vaccinated. If you, your students, or your colleagues live with anyone under the age if 12, you/they are possibly being exposed to COVID without that extra layer of protection. Let’s not alienate those who are under 12. We should all wear masks until we all have access to the vaccine. Equity is awesome. 😀.
I felt the same way when August came around and we had to wear them starting in September even though we went mask free for summer sessions. BUT I am one of those vaccinated people that got COVID from a friend or family member at a funeral at the end of July. The person we all know was sick refused to get tested and is still in denial. I thanked God that it was when summer sessions were over, so I didn't expose any of my students or colleagues. Being in NJ, I suspect we'll continue the mask policy until at least spring break before even the possibility of relaxing guidelines. I take my students outside at least once or twice a week to have mask breaks and see their smiling faces!
I hear you loudly and clearly. It doesn't matter what I believe about masks, I only wear them so I can be with the kids, but I do so under protest. Prayers and good thoughts for all of us.
I would definitely rather wear the mask than do virtual or hybrid.
