Accept. Identify. Move by Mark Dixon, BCBA is a curriculum for children based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy out of ABA. It targets mindfulness, context, defusion, etc. as strategies to handle strong emotions, social skills, etc. It was recently called out in Perspectives on Behavior Analysis as a strong example of a quality product for teaching social-emotional behavior. It is even structured to be used within an MTSS model of behavior intervention.
Skillstreaming is another ABA approach to teaching social skills individually but that could be used to assess and build skills for numerous students in conjunction with a curriculum like AIM. These programs are less “right out of the box” but strong training and coaching while working in teams to build custom lessons is often said to be preferred at least by some teachers.
Second Step is a program that has some research within schools but is based on a variety of approaches. It is used widely and heavily-advertised and uses a combination of lessons and videos. It is more old-fashioned but not necessarily bad. Easier to use out of the box but no assessment system.
Second step but I like the free SEL lessons on class dojo.
We make our own.
Pros: highly personalized and relevant for students as we tweak it to fit them every year.
Cons: so much work
We use second strep and Superflex! :-)
