I’m not a solo or crim/family law guy but I represent a bunch of crim/family law firms there as outside General Counsel. The two areas I’ve seen real success are: 1. Community or church groups and 2. Social media. Good luck!
Social media is mostly a level playing field. Post about what you do every week. Really seek to educate your social media friends on what you do, and then post your results. People will contact you. Being connected to a church or social organization helps a lot, as you then become the group’s lawyer.
Ive tried posing these questions in the bowl before....you dont get much help other than the standard "go network" responses
The biggest word of mouth is your local prison. If you are not urban, local DOT for license suspensions. Clients who like you or who you get good results to (and VISIT and INVESTIGATE their case) recommend you. Ones you piss off will make sure your name is also known.

I've been a solo in family law for 13 years. Hiring a good website/marketing team is very helpful, although it takes time (several years) to get lots of quality, organic website leads. Website leads are a great way to supplement word of mouth leads from colleagues, former clients, friends, etc.
