I agree, though not at the expense of dropping races at classic circuits.
Can’t - part of the size increase is b/c of modern day safety and crumple zone requirements.

I think there’s a good discussion to be had about the number of races, but the cost of logistics isn’t a primary or secondary issue. Logistics cost about $8M in 2018 according to DHL, so maybe they’re $12-13M now. That’s less than 10% of the cost cap. And given that races like Imola, Hungary, Spain, and maybe Spa would be the most at risk of getting cut, the logistics costs wouldn’t go down much.
Other factors that might suggest cutting the schedule would benefit the sport:
- product dilution with 24 race weekends
- heavy workloads on teams that discourage talented people from working in the sport
- being forced into venues with bad racing, bad commercial deals, or problematic social concerns
- not being able to CLAIM net zero operations in 2030
- creating a sport that’s so expensive it can’t sustain itself through economic cycles
Agreed. It almost makes sense for teams at the top and bottom of the championship (once clinched) or teams that are mathematically impossible to move up or down the standings to not even spend the money to participate in the full calendar.
IE Haas and Sauber really didn’t need to compete in the last two rounds, but they did anyways.
