I worked for landscaping companies and cooked at restaurants during high school, college, and the first 8 months after graduating. This really hits home.
I never worked under him but I was at Arnold when Roger was there, I remember him being a really nice guy.
Great piece. I think I’d still choose white collar. I’ve done ‘blue collar’ work too and while it’s mentally healthier, having money cures a lot of ills in your life.

I’ve had these same thoughts over the years. Work that begins and ends in a regular rhythm, to be able to plan other parts of my life around sounds so appealing, so much less stressful, so much more healthy mentally and physically.
Why does advertising work have to be this way. The industry as a whole could change it, starting with leadership that prioritizes healthy workers.
Healthier, happier workers are a boon on its own for better work quality and productivity. And the savings in healthcare…
But we’re America, and just HAVE TO do everything gawdang stoopider than everyone else…especially in Advertising.
