Yes, biologically, you are correct. And I think what we are advocating for in this bowl, as a microcosm of society at large, is not to divide based on our socio-cultural differences, but to respect, embrace and learn from them.
The thing is - there are differences between human beings. I think it’s okay and even important to acknowledge that. We are alike in some ways, we are different in some ways. Until we are treated equally and looked at as actual equals, there will always be division. Calling that out is not what creates the division.
Oh, God! Not this again. I am beyond beyond with this colorblind/ differenceblind bullshit. (Please don’t take my vexation with this broader conversation personally.)
WARNING: HARD TRUTHS AHEAD
1) We are one species but we are not one race.
There are differences and these differences are beautiful and valuable.
2) MLK did not say we should be colorblind. He said we should not judge one another based on the color of our skin. He didn’t say ignore differences altogether- precisely because the way we treat people different from us IS one of the things that informs our character (the content of which he said we should be judged upon).
3) Dismissing difference perpetuates oppression, difference-based disenfranchisement, and division because our entire politico-economic system is based on competition and differentiation.
The idea is useless in the most essential sense of the word. It only preserves the status quo and privilege for those who benefit from it.
@publicis1 I agree there are cultural differences, but to think there are racial differences would mean there are different races...
What if I told you there is all of 1 human race (and hundreds of cultures within it).
What if I said this was basic human biology and not my opinion.
There are big differences in how different races are perceived. I don’t think there are “racial differences”
Agreed. If tables were turned... ultimately it’s management. Not the employee. Mostly what I have seen is a collective attacking the working stiff not the same management who is responsible. 🤷🏽♂️
