This resonates - while I suspect the people who I have a hard time working under, my non-adhd colleagues probably have similar problems with, i do find I need to put a lot more effort into controlling my focus when micromanaged. Which of course means I'm either hyper focused on the wrong things (because that's what was asked for most recently), or just way less effective.
My boss is extremely NT and I’m constantly being told I need to change my own communication style to fit what they want, but they will not flex for me.
I’m always being told I’m overthinking things (when I would consider them to be UNDERthinking things and not looking at every angle of something or planning for multiple possibilities), as well as told I’m getting too lost in the details or asking too many questions to clarify something.
I am almost assuredly not getting promoted because I am ND. I don’t feel comfortable disclosing my diagnosis because I strongly suspect it would be seen as a character flaw and I’d be on the next layoff list, but it’s really tough to have to constantly hear that my manager clearly thinks I need to change the way my brain works and how I approach things.
