would come up with 30 ideas. Now as a leader i feel its killing me. Maintaining the focus to pursue an opportunity for months and following up with clients requires every bit of energy and focus i can muster. Any hints, tools, solutions for maintaining focus on tedious activities over long time horizon? Adderall helps during the day for tasks, meetings, etc. However tasks that last weeks or months are my Achilles heel.
I am with you! Here is what worked for me and I been ADD majority of my life and has been a top performer.
1) When following up with clients, set up tiers /groups and on how often you should follow up with them by group. Then, you can follow up with a group of them on one block of time .
2) On finishing tedious tasks- this one is hard and I still struggle with. For me, what worked is to write down extremely detailed steps you have to do. For example, checking footnotes: I would need to a) gather all the documents b) print out report c) check mark each one... by breaking it down has helped me stay focus for a long time. Another tip is to use an app called forest, where you get one tree for every 25 minutes of focused time.
C) as for the tasks that last over months, argggg,, I already feel the drag. I like to read a motivational quote every time I don’t feel like doing it
OP - wow you just nailed EXACTLY how I’ve been feeling lately. I throw myself into something and for that day it’s the most important thing in the world, but I can’t pick it up day after day to drive it through the finish line. I’m already onto the next thing before I can see anything through.
Block out time on your cal to do every task. I also like using a physical notepad with a 3-5 item checklist for the day - the rush from checking off the last one is soooo nice
I feel exactly the same.
also leverage your team to pick up the things you're less thrilled about. provide them with "growing opportunities" 😂.
I’ve often thought about switching careers to become a clinician to avoid long term projects and feed my need for immediacy
