I work with a bunch of deeply unattractive people, myself included. No office romance, only office resentment.
same engagement chances of resentment is higher
Are you guys married outside of your “involvement” 🍿?
It’s not a good idea for so many reasons. My company won’t let you work on the same team. But If it’s something serious Get a different job, different area of the company. You should not be reporting to someone you’re in a relationship with imo.
Even if your and your boss never have an issue, it can create major issues internally especially w other team members who may perceive or allege preferential treatment - very subjective.
Office romance is risky period but with boss it can be 💀💀💀
As a dude, I'm just simply not getting involved with anyone at work. To risky for my source of income and career.
It is never a good idea to get romantic with a boss or for a boss to be romantic with someone they directly lead. It's touch and go already with colleagues given how it can cause tension in an office.
Most places have guidelines like others mentioned (different teams) but at the end of they day it's a risk. Sure you may be into each other now but thinking through the implications of what could happen if things go bad is important.
I've never had this problem as I entered the workforce in a serious relationship from grad school but have observed others bring lots of drama to the workplace...
Giggity.
Don’t dip your pen in the company ink. Don’t shit where you eat. Don’t hook up where you vlookup.
I met my wife at EY. Our first "date" was in the Q Center hotel room :) No one cared and eventually we ended up at different firms.
You’ve been together for 10 years and never thought about telling HR and moving to a different team, or at least not reporting to your boss/lover? Of course people suspect and know, they aren’t stupid. Just document it and save yourself an embarrassing firing
Also. You can’t help who you are attracted to, but who you choose to sleep with is a choice. Be an adult.
Is this someone other than your boss? If you're found out, you'll lose your job but honestly you have a very winnable legal case against your company if you ever break up.
That's worth something, I suppose.
Most companies don’t care as long as it’s on different teams. But you have to make sure that if things go south you won’t be causing tension because then the firm may fire you both afterwards. So making sure that both people are mature about that is important.
Met my wife 20 plus years ago at pw. She is back at pw and I an at EY. we made it work. Are there risks....sure...but there always are.
Your boss will be fired if they find out. You should be safe (retaliation) but she won’t.
I met my wife at work. She was not in my chain of command, and we made sure it stayed that way.
Usually not a good idea, especially with your manager or someone else that reports to the same manager.
Dating a direct report or someone in your direct chain of command is highly discouraged. It often leads to perceptions of favoritism and can create legal issues if the relationship ends poorly.
If the relationship goes south, you still have to work together and collaborate on projects. Be prepared for the reality that a bad breakup can severely impact your daily work environment and productivity.
Just dont have SSX at work, or HR may have redo the office space. 💀
Whoa. 10 years. Sounds unhealthy that it’s on again off again, but you do you boo.
Most firms require that you disclose, simply for liability reasons. Your boss/SO can’t review your work papers, because of a lack of objectivity (perceived or real). If this comes out in a lawsuit, it’s way worse if you haven’t disclosed.
Before you say, it’ll never end up there … you’d be surprised.
Also boss could face consequences if someone who does suspect files a complaint and an HR investigation ensues. People are savage when they think their own job is on the line.
